Passenger ships
Minimum width 900 mm, additional width based on number of passengers over 90. There is complex calculation involving number of persons per deck. It means width expands as it moves to lifeboats.
Handrails on each side, max width of handrails 1800 mm
Stairways are aligned fore and aft. Landing area is at least 2 sqm and increases on number of persons.
Doors have same width as stairways.
ESCAPE PLAN
Indicates number of persons in occupied spaces, number of persons expected to escape, location of assembly stations and survival craft embarkation positions, Primary and secondary means of escape and width of stairways, doors, corridores and landing areas. This plan is accompanied by calculations.
Cargo ships
Width is not less than 700 mm and hand rail on one side. When width is over 1800 mm, it has handrail on both sides. Angle of inclination no more than 50 deg, for machinery and small spaces, it may be 60 deg. Width of the doors to be same as stairways.
